What can I use IA_Logger for ?

IA_logger can be used to log and store all serial communication to/from your P.C and attached serial device - It has been used to log files and display them on the internet - Real Time web Page updates of all serial data - this is achieved by logging to a file on a P.C running a web service . It will enumerate all available serial devices e.g. Standard Serial Ports, USB to Serial devices and ethernet to serial devices. Ignite Automation also have a TCP/IP communication / logging utility called IA_Socket - details available soon ..

Hi. I haven't been able to get this to run since I downloaded and extracted it. I am using a PC with a P4 and 1gig of RAM, running Win2K SP4.
First it said it couldn't find mscoree.dll in the same folder. I found this elsewhere and moved it where it was needed.
It then said it couldn't run without .NET framework 2.0 runtime. Fair enough. I found and installed the .NET stuff with real difficulty.
Having accomplished that, it now says it is being closed because it wouldn't terminate properly??!! I captured the images of two error messages for this, but see no way to place them here.
Just to top everything else off, when I previewed the first write up, this produced a blank page. Hitting the back arrow took me to a blank post page. Everything had been erased?! This is the second write up, which is being saved before posting.

Any ideas as to what I need to do to get the logger to work, or get the error images into the hands of someone who can figure out what's going on? I'd like to put this logger to use.

Later!

Kenjj,
The associated web page states .NET runtimes 2. Which have to be installed. This application has been downloaded and used by thousands of people without issue ... so lets go through the basics first.

If you tried to run this prior to .NET runtimes install and it failed - did you ensure that there was not a 'ghost task' running in the background - Check taskmanager .. I.e the app. listed under task manager as running but the task GUI not visible.

1) The application is in a Zipped format - Just clicking on the zipped folder to explore the application and double clicking on the .exe - will result in errors - ensure that it is unzipped ..Then try the application. - Not saying that is what was done - but It has to be eliminated .I know you said you extracted it..

2) The application was created and compiled with .NET runtimes 2.0.50727 (runtimes 2)... so these are required. Lack of the runtimes is also most likely the cause of the mscoree.dll issue you mentioned. As this is registered as part of a .net runtime install.

3) Did your firewall report or try to block the application ?

btw: Minimum resolution required is 1024x768 ... to see full application - its initial purpose was to operate on a machine with this resolution ... now offered FREE as is - so no plans to facilitate lower than this resolution.

Can you forward the error message and images to info[at]igniteautomation.com and I will have a look at it.
I am about to get this tested on a Win2K machine and will give feedback.

Ref: W2K SP4 Install

Upgraded my .Net Runtimes to version 2, plus ran a Windows update to ensure all service packs were up to date and all went smoothly. My W2k Sp4 machine is no great shakes, 128mb Ram, 20gb Hd and a 1.6Ghz processor. Downloaded the IA_Logger, extracted it to a folder on my desktop and ran the .exe, all started first time with no errors  .

Triumph!
John PMed me with advice. I eventually decided to just do away with the folder I created from the first download, restart the computer and do the download/installation all over again. And it works! OK, off to experiment with the HELP! manual in hand...

Thanks guys! Later!
